Cynicism made easy

It is a simple blog site by a man who is obviously better than all of us. The links are easy enough to follow though he doesn't post them that often.

This Site is Awesome

Best design ever!

"Medica web site. It may save your life."

I believe this web site is really nice, and colorful. The question, does this Medical site can save your life? I dont know, but the best way to know is in class.

Lots of Ways to Find What You Want

Target.com has an enormous amount of items for sale. There is a search bar on the main page and category buttons that when moused over offer a wide variety of subcategories. I would be surprised if someone couldn't find what they were looking for, unless it was a very specific item and few details were known about it.

My work Site

This is the website for my work that I have to get on everyday that I work. It is a little confusing and hard to get around. I think there are to many steps to try and get where you want to go. It also seems like they tried to use flash tomake it look better.

Discount Electronics

I like this site because I can usually find a lot of electronics that sometimes are up to 75% less than buying it at a brand name store. Even with shipping its that much cheaper and more convenient. I've never has a problem with their products other than the "Microsoft" Xbox 360 refurbished, but that's obvious as to why I had a problem with it. They were easy to work with about returning the Xbox as well, which helped a lot. The site doesn't have a bread crumb trail, but it does have the main links still, they have just been moved farther down the page.

Navigation redefined!

In chapter 6, the primary focus is on a website being easy to navigate and usable. I think that the Dave Ramsey website is one of the best websites I have come across in this category. The website, like the financial counseling program it supports, is all about doing a few things really well and eliminating clutter.

Navigation made Creative

Ninja Tune has quite the line up of artists. They've established a neat future cool aesthetic with all of their artists - especially the Brazilian Amon Tobin. His website features a very interesting navigation style, somewhat like a video game. I think it shows a creative touch.

Needs No Introduction

So, we all know it was just a matter of time before this came up. BSU and it's "amazing" website. Not even thinking about the navigation, the home page is by far one of the worst I've seen for a university's website.

The Drudge Report

The Drudge Report

I felt Drudge fits with this week's reading because it has zero navigation but an excellent homepage. In terms of design, a lot of people don't like Drudge. Some say its ugly and the list of columnists feels awkward. I love Drudge. To me it is setup like a paper newspaper. I would say Drudge has no navigation since it is a single page with links to other sights.
In terms of content, Drudge is prolific. Its my homepage and I check it 10 times a day. Most of my friends are the same way. A few weeks ago Drudge had a link to a story that claimed 25% of all hits from the United States on the BBC website came through the Drudge Report.

World Rugby Shop

The website I chose was worldrugbyshop.com because it's pretty simple to navigate, and they use those awesome breadcrumbs as you'll see.

Easy Navigation

The website I chose is www.makezine.com Makezine is basically a do-it-yourself site, only it leans more towards technological projects instead of home improvement.

The reading compared navigating a website to navigating a department store. You're usually trying to find something and you decide whether to ask first (use the site's search engine first) or to browse first (navigate the site).

Makezine's navigation bar can easily be found and used if you decide to "browse first." The tab that you click on is highlighted when you are taken to that section of the site. If you decide to "ask first," there is a search engine right above the navigation tabs. So, the two basic forms of navigation a person would use on a website are located in the same area. They are also in a very visible section of the page.

eBaum's World Cleans Up

Let's study eBaum's World for a minute.

http://www.ebaumsworld.com/

Does anyone else remember a few years ago, when they had so much crap (ads, links, bad navigation) on their page that it made it difficult to navigate? It actually looks better to me now. My hypothesis and gut instinct tells me that it's because users now expect easier navigation with the Web 2.0 phenomenon.

Confused Website

Chapter 6 talked about being able to keep internet users attention and baing easy to navigate. I found this church website and I found it confusing and I gave up on looking at the site. Enjoy!

"That was easy."

Similarly to Michael below, I also chose the corporate Web site I used for my TCOM 354 Web site critique. Staples.com is a simply designed and text heavy site, at least on the main page, but it is easy to use and its easy for people to find the product they are looking for.

The site has a breadcrumb trail, but it is a breadcrumb trail that only includes the last page of the site you visited previously, not all of the pages going back to the home page. The site has a consistent design, a simple tabbed interface, a company logo that acts as a home page link and access to most parts of the Web site from the front page.

One of the most annoying features of the site is that it asks first time users to provide their zip code information when you first try to click on anything. All in all, I think the site is well organized, if lacking on the aesthetic side.

Be All You Can Be

I was just looking at my e-mails and came across the web page for THE ARMY ( http://www.army.com/ ). It is very professional looking and gives good information.

Coca-cola

I was working on a web critique for my 354 class and stumbled upon the Coke corporate site. It is pretty easy to navigate ... just don't mind the flash at the top.
